The Fall is a busy time for bill hearings at the State House: all three of the Creative Sector Agenda priority bills will have hearings in the next couple of months and we need advocates to share their support for these proposals.
Bill hearings are a critical time for the public to share their support, concern, or opposition for legislation. Advocates have a clear window to influence the trajectory of legislation while committees are receiving testimony and in the weeks after hearings. Committee members and staff will use the testimony they receive to determine if they need to make changes to bills, if bills will move forward, or if they will stall.
In the September Artivist Town Hall, we will guide you through the public hearing process and share resources for crafting verbal and written testimony so you can feel more confident testifying on cultural policies.
We will be joined by guest presenter Kate Miller, Director of Grants & Finance for the City of New Bedford and formerly a staff director for the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, who will share her insights about what committee chairs and staff are looking for out of public hearings.
