On November 1, Create the Vote Cape Cod hosted a Senate Candidates Debate on Arts, Culture, and Creativity between then-candidates for State Senate Julian Cyr and Tony Schiavi. Organized by The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and MASSCreative as part of their Creative Exchange Conference and moderated by Middy Todd, of WCAI Cape and Islands NPR, the event featured a robust hour-long discussion on arts and cultural issues and the role they play in building a vibrant, healthy, and equitable Cape Cod.

The candidates talked about the importance of expanded access to arts education, cultural tourism, economic development, and their personal experiences with art. Full of thoughtful conversation, the debate built upon the candidates’ responses to the Create the Vote questionnaire and sit-down meetings with the Cape Cod creative community over the past two months.

Thank you to both candidates for engaging with the creative community during the election and congratulations to Julian Cyr on his election to the Massachusetts Senate. The creative community looks forward to working with Senator-elect Cyr to strengthen arts and culture on Cape Cod and throughout the Commonwealth.
