Campaign Organizer for Statewide Create the Vote 2017 Initiative:

Injecting Arts and Culture into the State’s Mayoral Races

(Short Term 10-week position starting in August)

From its world-class institutions to its community-based arts and cultural activities, Massachusetts has one of the most vibrant creative communities in the nation. Despite this, many of our political leaders still look at the arts and cultural community as “nice, but not necessary.”

In response, MASSCreative, the statewide arts advocacy organization, was founded in 2012 and is currently supported by 380+ institutional members and 27,000 individual advocates. MASSCreative’s advocacy campaigns bring together the collective voice of the creative community to advocate for the resources and support they need to build healthy, vibrant, and equitable communities.

MASSCreative seeks an energetic and talented organizer to make arts and culture a prominent issue in the 2017 fall election cycle for mayoral and city council candidates. This position reports to MASSCreative’s Senior Campaign Organizer.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and mobilize arts, cultural, and creative community leaders and supporters to energize and power Create the Vote campaigns in 15 cities across the Commonwealth.
  • Educate and engage candidates to develop and broadcast dynamic arts and cultural platforms through questionnaires and sit-down meetings.
  • Educate and engage voters to include arts issues in their calculations on how they will vote. Encourage voters to ask candidates about arts and culture at non-arts events, at arts candidate forums, and through social media.
  • Build cohesive and trained local campaign committees with local arts leaders and supporters.
  • Build strong local coalitions of non-arts focused partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in grassroots volunteer recruitment, training and management
  • Demonstrated ability to build and mobilize a group of people around a project or campaign
  • Desire to work in communities across the Commonwealth with a team of eager and talented volunteers
  • Experience with database management and social media tools
  • Passion and a commitment for advocating for the arts and cultural community
  • Ability to travel via car throughout the state
