Dear <<first name>>

Throughout the pandemic, we [insert activities that the organization has done to stay connected with audiences and bring people together].

We are grateful that we’ve been able to keep these connections throughout the pandemic, and we can’t wait until we can see you again in person.

To ensure that arts and cultural organizations throughout the Commonwealth like ours are able to re-open once it is safe to do so, we ask you to support the use of American Rescue Plan funds for arts and cultural organizations like [insert name of org].

This Massachusetts bill would set aside $575 million of the more than $5 billion that Massachusetts will receive from the American Rescue Plan, the new federal COVID-19 relief bill passed into law in March, for stabilization grants for arts and cultural organizations throughout the state. These grants will prioritize economic recovery by focusing on job retention and creation. They can be used for technological innovations needed to safely reopen. And they will consider racial diversity and equity, diversity of programming and geography to ensure that vibrant, community-based organizations of smaller size endure.

Last March, arts and cultural organizations were among the first businesses to close and we will be among the last to fully re-open. But art, culture, and creativity is essential to the state’s economic recovery. In 2018, there were more than 21 million attendees for art and cultural events in the Greater Boston area, which is more than four times that for all major Boston sporting events combined. Before the pandemic, the state’s arts sector employed over 73,000 people, generating over $2.5 billion in spending and bringing in nearly $100 million in state tax revenues

Write a note to your state lawmakers letting them know you support the full recovery of arts and culture for all residents of the Commonwealth.
