Check out our opinion piece with Steven Froias of New Bedford Open Studios:
"From the revitalization of the Zeiterion Theatre to free monthly AHA! Nights downtown, from New Bedford Open Studios to the storied Whaling Museum, it is clear that arts and culture are an integral part of the New Bedford community and its economy.
Recognizing the power of the creative economy to fuel growth and development, local and state officials have looked to tap New Bedford’s rich cultural resources as they plan for the future. Locally, developing and supporting the arts as a major economic driver in the city is a linchpin of New Bedford 2020, the master plan for the city developed in 2010. Aggressively marketing the arts and the creative economy is also a centerpiece of the city’s downtown Housing Development Incentive Program. More recent discussions around further development of the seaport cultural district show that untapped potential remains in maximizing arts and cultural opportunities in the city.
