ACTION ALERT: Urge the MA Senate to Support Art and Culture

The Senate Way and Means Committee released its budget on Wednesday and the result is a big disappointment for the arts, culture, and creative community. Senate Ways and Means proposed a $9.6 million budget for the Massachusetts Cultural Council -- a $1.5 million CUT from what the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed just last month.

In April the House tried to cut the MCC budget and the creative community responded by sending in more than 1,600 letters in two days to the State House in protest.  As you know, the House listened to us and increased their investment and the MCC budget to $11 million.

We need to get to work again.  Click here to send a strong message to your Senator by Friday, May 17 to sponsor the Wolf Amendment to restore $3 million in the MCC budget to a level of $12.5 million.

Once again, the leadership of the Senate has chosen to invest in our growing community at a level less than half of what it was ten years ago. The appropriation of $9.6 million will leave organizations, artists, and arts educators all across the Commonwealth without the vital resources necessary to run their programs.

Click here today to send an email to your Senator urging him/her to co-sponsor Senator Wolf’s amendment to restore $3 million to the Massachusetts Cultural Council budget.

Don’t forget that last month, the creative community mobilized around the House budget and made a difference.  Over the next two days, we need to send an even louder message to the leadership of the Senate and show them that investing in the creative community is necessary to make Massachusetts a place where we all want to live, work, play and visit.

Please act today. And circulate this Action Alert to your audiences, friends and colleagues so they can add their voice to our growing movement.
